Artist operates non-profit to teach, fundraise
For February’s artist of the month gallery at El Progreso Memorial Library, local artist Jimmy Moon has the spotlight.
In a recent interview, Moon described his work as fluent, raw and alive with characteristics of bright color and big brushstrokes. Often his art is a reflection of his emotional state, and he uses his paint as medium for expressing feelings.
His work has been displayed in various exhibits and pop-up galleries in this region, including showings in San Antonio’s Blue Star Arts District. Moon is also frequently commissioned to create requested works.
Part of his success in this arena is due to his self described compassionate nature. He feels he is the vessel for communicating other’s pain.
“People come to me with their personal stories and I help them heal through art. I paint to heal,” Moon said.
