Tuesday night, the Uvalde Lobos will be seeking their first District 28-5A softball victory of the season as they travel to southern Bexar County to face the Southwest Legacy Lady Titans.
Varsity action is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., while the junior varsity game is set to start at 5 p.m.
Legacy’s Lady Titans, 1-0 in district play and 1-1 for the season, downed the Southside Lady Cardinals, 13-6, in their district opener last Tuesday night.
They rallied from a 4-0 deficit to score 13 runs during the final four innings of the game.
The Lady Titans lost to the East Central Hornets, 7-1, in Northside ISD tournament action Thursday.
Coach Jimmy Fly’s Lobos, 2-1 for the season, will enter play Tuesday following weekend action in the 2019 Uvalde High School Softball Classic.
Thursday night, the Lobos posted their second win of the tournament as they downed the Corpus Christi London Pirates, 6-4, at the UHS softball field.
Down 1-0, the Lobos plated five runs in the bottom half of the first inning.
They scored five times despite the fact that they came up with only one hit in the inning.
The Lobos took advantage of walks, good base running, and three London defensive errors to plate their five runs.
Kylie Sendejo had the lone hit of the inning. She hit a single to drive in the fifth run of the inning.
Up 5-1, the Lobos added a run in the second inning.
Anahi Ramirez made hit a hard shot that the pitcher was unable to field and made it to first base safely for an infield single.
Ramirez stole second base and wound up scoring on a two-base error by the Pirates.
London rallied for three runs in the third inning, but it was not enough as the Lobos hung on to win the ball game.
All three errors scored by London in the third inning were unearned due to three defensive errors committed by the Lobos.
Nadia Gonzales was the winning pitcher, She gave up two hits, walked three batters, and struck out two batters.
Friday afternoon, the Lobos were scheduled to play Bandera in tournament action, while they were face Laredo LBJ Friday evening.
Results from those two games will be reported in Thursday’s edition of the Uvalde Leader-News.
Following action Tuesday, the varsity Lobos will be in tournament action at East Central set for Thursday through Friday.
