Coyotes face tough football slate

Formidable schedule set for 2019

The Uvalde Coyotes will face a tough schedule of opponents for the 2019 Texas high school football season.

Seven of their 10 regular-season opponents are favored to advance to post-season play.

Last season, two of Uvalde’s three pre-district opponents, the Eagle Pass Eagles and the Southwest Dragons earned a post-season playoff berth.

Southwest won the District 14-5A Division football title.

The Dragons crushed the San Antonio Brackenridge Eagles, 49-27, in bi-district action, but they wound up losing a 35-21 decision to the Flour Bluff Hornets in the second round of the playoffs.

Despite the fact that the Dragons return only eight lettermen from last year’s 10-2 ball club, the Dragons are picked to challenge the San Antonio Harlan Hawks for the district title again this season.

Last season, Eagle Pass finished third in the District 29-6A race.

Laredo United and Laredo Alexander finished first and second in that district.

The Eagles won a 34-28 over-time thriller against the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Bears in bi-district play.

Eagle Pass lost to the Brownsville Hanna Golden Eagles, 28-23, in the second round.

With 23 returning lettermen from last year’s 9-3 team, the Eagles are picked to battle Laredo United and Laredo Alexander for the 29-6A title again this season.
