Uvalde run set next Saturday


The Uvalde High School Invitational cross-country meet is scheduled for next Saturday at the UHS practice complex.

Varsity, junior varsity, eighth-grade and seventh-grade athletes will compete.

UHS head cross-country coach Libby Guzman is seeking volunteers to help with the event. Contact Guzman at 830-261-0001.

Yesterday at Del Rio, the Coyotes and the Lobos were scheduled to begin their running season with competition in the Del Rio Invitational running meet.

Results from the meet will be reported in an upcoming edition of the Uvalde Leader-News.

UHS runners who were to vie in the girls’ varsity division of the meet include Brisa Rodriguez, Esmy Garcia, Alex Nolasco, Ariana Reyes, Briana Crow, and Michelle Hernandez.

Those UHS runners who were entered in the boys” varsity division of the event are Tito Gonzalez, James Nevarez, Rey Perez, Salvador Cobos, Bobby Gomez, and Evan Encina.

Macey Fowler and Rianon Padilla were to represent UHS in the girls’ varsity division race.

Following the UHS Invitational next Saturday, the Uvaldeans will compete at the Medina Valley Invitational at Castroville on Aug. 31.

Other cross-country meets for the Coyotes and Lobos this season will include: San Antonio FEAST, Sept. 7; Eagle Pass Border Bash, Sept. 14; Corpus Christi Islander Splash, Sept. 21; SWTJC, Sept. 28; and Texas Lutheran, Oct. 5.
