The Uvalde Lobos performed well in District 28-5A track-and-field action last week and qualified a lot of athletes for the Area meet.
Coach Libby Guzman’s Lobos rolled up 96 points to finish third in the girls’ varsity team standings of the district meet.
San Antonio Harlan placed first with 201 points, following by Medina Valley with 162 points.
“We knew going into district that it would be hard to win the district title. Harlan and Medina Valley had more overall entries than we did,” said Coach Guzman.
“I am proud of the effort put forth by each and everyone of our athletes,” said Guzman. “We won a lot of medals and qualified a lot of our athletes for the Area meet.
“We are excited to have gained some more days to train and improve,” said Guzman. “We look forward to a competitive Area meet and will be trying to qualify a lot of our athletes for the regional meet later this month.”
The Area track-and-field meet is scheduled for next Wednesday at Floresville and will pit the best athletes from District 27-5A and District 28-5A against each other for a shot at qualifying for the Class 5A Region IV meet set for April 26 and 27 at San Antonio’s Alamo Stadium.
