UHS runners compete in district meet


The District 28-5A cross-country meet is scheduled for Thursday at Castroville’s Medina Valley High School.

At 9 a.m., the girls’ varsity race will begin, while the boys’ varsity race is set to start at 9:30 a.m.

The girls’ junior varsity race is scheduled for 10 a.m. and the boys’ junior varsity race will get going at 10:30 p.m.

Coach Libby Guzman’s Uvalde Lobos and Uvalde Coyotes will head into the district meet at Medina Valley coming off action in the Bandera High School Invitational this past Wednesday afternoon.

The Lobos placed third in the girls’ varsity team standings with 119 points.

Kayden Carrasco took seventh place overall with her time of 12 minutes and 45 second in the two-mile race.

Andrea Perez and Chelsey Moreno finished 20th and 22nd with respective times of 13:27 and 13:35.

Brisa Rodriguez took 33rd place and Esmy Garcia wound up in 37th place. Their times were 13:51 and 13:57.

Alex Nolasco finished in 47th place, while Tabytha White took 52nd place. They posted times of 14:11 and 14:17.

Devine won the Bandera meet team title with 76 points, while Wimberley placed second with 111 points.

The Coyotes placed eighth with 167 points in the boys’ team standings.

Unberto Gonzalez finished third in the individual competition with his time of 17 minutes and 26 seconds.

James Nevarez placed 10th with his time of 18:04.

Paul Hernandez finished just ahead of his teammate Robert Guerrero. They both recorded a time of 19:44.

Other UHS runners were: Tony Hernandez, 61st place, 20:23; Salvador Cobos, 77th place, 22:04; and Bobby Gomez, 79th place, 23:28.

Lytle won first place in the boys’ team standings with 84 points.

Alamo Heights finished second with 97 points, while San Antonio Veterans Memorial placed third with 100 points.

The Lobos placed fourth in the girls’ junior varsity division of the meet with 106 points.

Cayce Gaston finished second with her time of 15:04.

Briana Crow placed 16th with a time of 15:45.

UHS’s other placements were: Maribel Solis, 23rd place, 16:20; Rianon Padilla, 32nd place, 18:09; and Sofia White, 33rd place, 13:13.
