Saturday will be the final opportunity for Uvalde High School girls to qualify for regional powerlifting competition.
Members of Coach Frank Gonzales’ UHS powerlifting team will vie in action at Crystal City.
Action in the meet will begin at 9 a.m.
For the Lobos, Avery Contreras has already qualified for regional competition, while Gavin Vara has qualified for the Coyotes.
Contreras won the best lifter award of the third UHS meet of the season held on Feb. 2.
She took first place in the girls’ 165-pound classification with her total lift of 825 pounds.
Contreras had a squat lift of 340 pounds, a bench press lift of 145 pounds, and a dead lift of 335 pounds.
Vying in the boys’ 181-pound weight classification, Vara took first place in the most recent UHS lifting meet held on Feb. 2 with his total lift of 1,350 pounds.
