Norma V. Duke
Norma Vyvian Duke, 96, of Utopia died on Feb. 4, 2019, in Bandera.
She was born on Feb. 13, 1922, in Hitchcock to Mary (Click) and Jack Blalock.
In 1929, the family moved from Hitchcock to Utopia. She joined the Utopia Baptist Church in September 1929 and was a faithful member for the rest of her life.
She married Leslie Duke on June 15, 1940, in Bandera. They established a residence on the Duke Ranch where she spent the next 79 years of her life. The couple lost one son but raised four more.
Over the years Duke was involved in many activities at Utopia Baptist Church: she taught Sunday School classes from nursery level to the senior lady’s class; she taught and assisted with vacation Bible school numerous times; and she sang in the choir for many years. She loved to sing.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Jack Ray Duke; grandson, Sam Duke Jr.; brother, Jack Blalock; and sister, Mary Sue Cunningham.
She is survived by four sons, Joe Duke and wife, Sandy, Rip Duke and wife, Elvie, Sam Duke and wife, Linda, and Bob Duke and wife, Jan, all of Utopia; her brother, Bill Blalock and wife, Norma, of Poteet; and sister, Nancy Blaisdell of Seattle, Washington; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
A visitation was held Feb. 9 at noon, followed by a service at 2 p.m, both at Utopia Baptist Church. Graveside services followed at Waresville Cemetery in Utopia.
