Jose L. Peña

Jose (Joe) L. Peña went to heaven on Monday, March 30, 2020. He died at Metropolitan Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 72. Joe was born in Uvalde, Texas on Nov. 3, 1947, to Ninfa (Hernandez) Peña and Joe Peña.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sulema Peña and his son, Joe Peña Jr., of Pleasanton, Texas.

He has two sisters, Linda Flores (Ernest) of Castroville, and Norma Atkinson (Dennis) of Uvalde, one brother, David Peña (Cathy) of Uvalde, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joe worked for Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for 34 years and was also a peace officer for the department. He worked 17 years at Garner State Park and 17 years at Choke Canyon State Park, until he retired in 1996, at which time he was park manager.

Joe joined the Navy his senior year, during the Vietnam War. He always had a smile and never met a stranger. He was always willing to help anyone and everyone and he was a very hard worker and enjoyed his work. Joe loved to play golf and won many championships in his younger days. He will be missed by many friends he made over his lifetime, but most of all, Joe loved his family and always did everything he could for them.

A memorial will be held at a later time to honor his life.
