Wiler Rodriguez, 23, who was also shot in the melee, was pronounced dead on Sept. 2 after being transported to Uvalde Memorial Hospital from the scene of the incident, located at the law office of former city attorney Richard O. Gonzales, 621 W. Main St.

Juan Jose Armendariz Jr., 27, was charged with murder and aggravated assault in the shooting.

Armendariz, an employee of the city of Uvalde from Jan. 2, 2014, until his resignation on April 8, 2016, turned himself in to police custody. He was transported to the Uvalde County Justice Center and booked into the jail, where he is being held with a $1 million bond.

According to a press release issued by Uvalde Police Department Chief Daniel Rodriguez, on Sept. 2 at approximately 1:52 a.m. police were investigating a disturbance call in the 100 block of Deleon Alley when they heard gunshots in the vicinity.

As officers were searching the immediate area, the communications center received a 911 call from a female who stated she was shot and provided her location. Officers located the female victim, along with two male gunshot victims.

The scene was secured and emergency medical services were called to treat the three gunshot victims. Uvalde Police Criminal Investigations Division and the Texas Rangers Office arrived at the scene and started an investigation, which is ongoing.
