Uvalde’s first baby of new year is a girl

With 10 fingers and toes, two ears, and a button nose, Daniella Leigh Rodriguez Jr. was the first-baby born at Uvalde Memorial Hospital in 2020.

She was delivered at 10:12 p.m. on Jan. 2, weighing 6 pounds, 13.1 ounces, and measured 17.5 inches in length.

Her parents are Daniella and Karlos Rodriguez of Uvalde. She is welcomed by two brothers, Felipe Martinez, age 13 and Karlos Rodriguez Jr, age 2; and one sister, Giovanna Marquez, age 11.

“Of all my pregnancies, I was the sickest with this one,” said Daniella, who works at Continental Tire. She said that despite her health complications, she was able to continue working up until the end.

She was induced on Jan. 2 at approximately 3 p.m.

Being the first baby of the new year was a close race, as another mother was in labor at the same time. She delivered approximately an hour after Daniella.

“Our daughter is very excited and can’t wait to take care of her sister,” Karlos said. “She’s disappointed that Daniella is not sleeping in her room.”

Being the first baby of the new year, Daniella and her family received multiple baby items from Uvalde Memorial Hospital, including a swing stocked full of baby items. Allstate Insurance agent Elissa Gonzalez donated a car seat, and Anderson House Pregnancy Resource Center also donated items, including a baby’s first Bible.
