State lawmaker King discusses legislature

The following was submitted by Barbara Hogan of El Progreso Club.

El Progreso Club met with Texas House Representative Tracy O. King on Oct. 12 for an update on legislative activities.

King said 6,631 bills were filed in the House for the 2017 session and 1,211 were passed. The Governor vetoed 50.

King said the budget was balanced and passed, and the most funding was allocated to Medicaid and public education.

King also talked about laws for Texas rivers.  A person cannot trespass on private land to get to a river. No four-wheel drive vehicles are allowed in riverbeds. It is against the law to hunt or fire guns from a riverbed.

King voiced appreciation for being able to represent all Uvalde County residents in the state legislature.
