Uvalde County’s early voting ballot board accepted seven of nearly 200 outstanding ballots when they met Nov. 13 at 9 a.m. at the county elections office, 124 N. East St.
Uvalde County elections administrator Melissa Jones said the board accepted four of about 173 provisional ballots.
She said the board also accepted three of approximately 17 ballots by mail, including those from people in the military and overseas who have an extended deadline. Jones said the board rejected the 14 ballots by mail because they lacked signatures or required identification information like Social Security or driver’s license numbers.
Election staff told the newspaper on Nov. 8 there were 200 provisional ballots but said this week that was an estimation and the actual number was 173.
The early voting ballot board includes Jolene Williams, Christine White, Gaye Morris, Janice McWhorter and Helen Cahours. All members were present, though election staff said one member arrived after the meeting began.
The board has the authority to allow or reject provisional ballots. When election officials at a polling site are unable to confirm a voter’s information, they may offer the voter a provisional ballot, which will only count if the ballot board finds the voter to be registered and eligible to vote.
The ballot board meeting concluded around 12:40 p.m.
The ballots did not change the overall outcome of any races.
