Last month, the Texas Legislature completed its formal session in good fashion. Every other year, they are able to accomplish in months what Congress fails to do in two to four years. Furthermore, the Texas Lege members are paid a fraction of the $174,000 as Washington bureaucrats and they continually carry a “Rainy Day” balance moving to the next session.
Some of the recent accomplishments include a nill annual increase for most school personnel and a decent one-time bonus for retired teachers. In addition, they gave property owners some relief and refused to increase sales taxes which would hurt the least fortunate.
As a former government contractor and state employee, I see where productivity is at a premium versus polities in recent events. I hope that the 2020 election will reflect those values. Sometimes, I think that being a Texan is as important as being a U.S. citizen.
