Pilots in the 18 Meter Nationals soaring contest at Garner Field Airport have been grounded for the last two days due to wet weather.
Through last Saturday, Bruce Taylor of Australia controls first place with 4,435 points followed by Jerzy Szemplinski of Canada with 4,350 and Gary Ittner of Los Angeles, Californian, with 4,277.
“Since the practice days, we have not had the classic weather Uvalde is known for around the world. Pilots are having to work to complete their daily tasks,” said contest manger Kerry Huffstutler.
The Soaring Society of America competition, featuring 33 pilots, began Aug. 1 and is scheduled to conclude Thursday.
