A 27-year-old father and his two children, ages 13 and 6, braved the overnight thunderstorm Monday on the porch of a vacant home after getting lost the night before while tubing the Frio River.
The Lubbock family was staying at Camp Riverview, located on County Road 350 in Concan, where 0.70 inches of rain fell overnight.
The trio entered the water at 6 p.m. Sunday night.
The man’s wife reported her husband and two children missing around midnight.
Deputies and other first responders from the Concan and Uvalde areas searched the area throughout the night, requesting assistance from the United States Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations early Monday morning.
Border Patrol agents utilizing a helicopter spotted the trio just after 8 a.m. walking on Chula Vista Ranch, 922 Tierra Linda Drive in Concan.
“They were all in good health,” said Sgt. Joaquin Ibarra of the Uvalde County Sheriff’s Office. “They got lost in the middle of the night and couldn’t find a way out. They found a vacant home near Seven Bluffs and they hunkered down on the porch just about all night. When they heard the helicopters they figured it was for them and walked out.”
