Hobby Lobby coming to Uvalde
A 50,000-square foot Hobby Lobby is coming to Uvalde in June of 2018. Construction will begin in October at 2340 E. Main St., the Uvalde Plaza Shopping Center.
The business will be located on the east end of the shopping center, which currently houses Texas Home Furnishings, which will relocate. Hobby Lobby is an arts and crafts store.
“Hobby Lobby is constantly looking for new locations to serve our customers better, and we believe Uvalde Plaza is a great fit,” said Bob Miller, communications coordinator for Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc., which is based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
“There are 98 Hobby Lobby locations in Texas. With the excellent response those stores have received, we believe customers will be pleased with the quality, selection and value we offer in the craft and home décor market,” Miller said. “We look forward to being a part of the community and helping our Uvalde customers live a creative life.”
Rob Holliday, a partner in the shopping center and adjoining properties, said the business will make an excellent addition to the tenant mix at Uvalde Plaza Shopping Center, which includes Hibbett Sports, Bealls, Petsense, Rent-A-Center and Snap Fitness.
“We’ve been investing in Uvalde for 30 years, and Hobby Lobby is the largest retail deal I can recall since Walmart came in town. We’re excited about Hobby Lobby and the message it sends to others looking at Uvalde.”
Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin was equally enthusiastic.
“Hobby Lobby is a great store and excellent company. We’re glad to have been able to work with Mr. Holliday to bring it here,” McLaughlin said.
“Hobby Lobby will be a great addition to the community and it will strengthen Uvalde’s position as a regional retail draw,” said Uvalde County Judge Bill Mitchell, who also serves as chairman of the Uvalde Area Development Foundation.
