Uvalde, Sabinal churches collecting small gifts

Filled shoeboxes will be distributed to children in need

Churches in Uvalde and Sabinal are seeking donations of school supplies, hygiene items and fun toys for children living in poverty overseas through the Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child project.

First Baptist Church of Uvalde and Central Christian Church in Sabinal ask that residents bring donations from Nov. 12-19.

Participants will transform empty shoeboxes to be filled with donated gifts. Operation Christmas Child will deliver these shoebox gifts to children affected by war, disease, disaster, poverty and famine.

This year, Uvalde-area residents hope to collect more than 4,459 gifts to contribute to the 2018 global goal of reaching 11 million children. Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has collected and delivered more than 157 million gift-filled shoeboxes to children in more than 160 countries and territories.

First Baptist Church of Uvalde, 220 N. High St., will accept donations from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 12-16; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Nov. 17; 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 18; and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Nov. 19.
