With 81 days to go before the start of the 2019 Uvalde High School football season, the Coyotes have begun their summer preparation campaign.
The Coyotes participated in 7-on-7 football competition at Hondo Monday night.
They won all three of their games.
The Uvaldeans posted a 28-0 victory over the Hondo White team, a 32-6 win over Bandera, and a thrilling 24-23 triumph over Hondo’s Navy team.
Next action for the Coyotes 7-on-7 team is scheduled for June 3 at Hondo.
The Coyotes will host a 7-on-7 competition in Uvalde beginning at 6 p.m. on June 5
On June 3, the UHS strength and conditioning program will begin.
Workout sessions are set for 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The program will run through July 11.
Because the Coyotes had spring football this year, they will begin their fall workout schedule one week later than they did last season.
Fall workouts for Uvalde High School prospective varsity and junior varsity football players will commence on Aug. 12.
Incoming UHS freshmen and sophomores will begin practice on Aug. 5.
There will be a pre-season UHS football meeting on Aug. 1 in the John Harrell Auditorium.
UHS will have only one scrimmage opponent as the Hondo Owls will be in the Honey Bowl to face the Coyotes on Aug. 22.
Last season, the Owls, who posted a 6-5 season record overall, tied Crystal City and Devine for first place in the District 14-4A Division II race.
Hondo lost to Llano, 21-14, in bi-district football playoff action.
The Coyotes will kick off their 2019 varsity regular-season football schedule on Thursday, Aug. 29, when they take on the Eagle Pass Eagles at Cozel Foster Veterans Memorial Stadium in Eagle Pass.
Eagle Pass finished third in the District 29-6A race last season.
The Eagles, 8-3 for the season, topped Pharr-San Juan-Alamo, 34-28, in bi-district action, but then lost to Brownsville Hanna, 28-13, in regional second-round competition.
The season opener will mark the first of two Thursday night games for the Coyotes.
Uvalde will face the Boerne Champion Chargers in a Thursday night District 14-5A Division II contest on Oct. 24 at Boerne.
That football game will be televised by a San Antonio Channel 35 KMYS as part of their Thursday Night Lights program.
Other road opponents for the Coyotes next season will feature the San Antonio Memorial Minutemen on Sept. 20; Kerrville Tivy Antlers, Oct. 11;, Oct. 25; and Lockhart Lions, Nov. 8.
On Sept. 6, the Coyotes will make their season home debut when they host the Eagle Pass Winn Mavericks.
The other home opponents will include the Southwest Dragons on Sept. 13; Alamo Heights Mules, Sept. 27; Medina Valley Panthers, Oct. 18; and San Antonio Kennedy Rockets, Nov. 1.
