Father, son jailed, released on bond for murder charge
A father and son from La Pryor are both free on $100,000 surety bonds after being arrested on murder charges in the New Year’s Day stabbing death of 38-year-old Abel Longoria.
According to a report provided by the Zavala County Sheriff’s Office, Sgt. Jay Garcia was given information regarding the location of possible suspects. The report states that when suspects David J. Castillo, 51, and his son, Daniel C. Castillo, 25, were located, they showed signs of having been involved in an altercation.
After requesting medical attention, both suspects were transported to Uvalde Memorial Hospital for treatment before being arrested.
The sheriff’s office was dispatched to 545 Evelyn Street in La Pryor at 2:45 a.m. and Sgt. Garcia arrived at approximately 3:15 a.m., where Longoria had been pronounced dead by first responders from two stab wounds.
Garcia then assisted ZCSO Investigator J. Jimenez and Texas Ranger Randy Garcia in securing the scene and collecting evidence. The investigation is ongoing.
Longoria is survived by his wife, Natalia Menchaca Longoria; mother, Eva Lopez; six children, all of La Pryor; five brothers; and his father, Jose Alberto Ventura, who is of Puerto Rico.
A visitation was held yesterday at 1 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.
