Liarakos, Garcia will represent UCISD in state contests
From the pool of seven campus teachers of the year, Uvalde Consolidated Independent School district has named Irma Garcia and Michael Liarakos as the district’s top teachers. The announcement was made Wednesday.
Liarakos, of Morales Junior High School, and Garcia, of Robb Elementary, will go on to represent UCISD in the Texas Association of School Administrators Texas Teacher of the Year program contest. Garcia will also compete for the Trinity Prize for Excellence in Teaching contest.
Garcia, who teaches fourth-graders at Robb Elementary, has been with the district for 19 years.
Liarakos, who teaches eighth-grade U.S. History at Morales Junior High, has been with the district for four years. He also coaches eighth-grade football and basketball and freshman baseball.
Near the end of 2018, UCISD released its list of top teachers by campus. They included Vanessa Luna of Anthon Elementary; Cristina Sanchez, Batesville Elementary; Karen Clark, Dalton Early Childhood Center; Rebecca Bradfield, Flores Elementary; and Janice Mireles, Uvalde High School.
