Coyotes vie at Eagle Pass tonight
Tonight at Eagle Pass, the Uvalde Coyotes will kick off their 2019 high school football season.
The young Uvaldeans will take on the Class 6A Eagle Pass Eagles.
Kick-off time is set for 7 p.m. in Cozel Foster Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Coach Tom Gonzalez’s Eagles enter this season coming off back-to-back 9-3 bi-district championship football seasons.
After winning the District 29-6A football title in 2017, the Eagles finished third in district behind Laredo United and Laredo Alexander last season.
The Eagles topped Pharr-San Juan-Alamo, 34-28, in bi-district play, before losing to Brownsville Hanna, 28-13, in the second round.
Coach Gonzalez lists five offensive starters and three defensive starters returning from last year’s ball club.
Running back Saul Perales tops the list of returning offensive players, while defensive end Charlie Schuessler tops the list of defensive returnees.
“Eagle Pass has a good team. They return a lot of personnel from last year’s bi-district championship team,” said Uvalde High School head football coach R.T. Gonzales. “They are talented and well coached.
