Thayer promoted in U.S. Army

Uvalde native Peter Thayer has spent a year stationed in South Korea. During that time, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army, learned to eat with chopsticks and attended the Winter Olympic Games, hosted in Pyeongchang.

At present, Thayer is assigned as the 8th U.S. Army Deputy Chief of Staff for Civil Affairs. After competing his tour in South Korea, he is considering a tour of Germany.

Thayer, his wife and the couple’s children made the move to South Korea last summer after previously being stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he served as the battalion executive officer for the 92nd Civil Affairs Battalion.
