SWTJC hosts 59th hoops tourney

Three-day action begins today

Today in La Forge Hall Gym, play in the 59th-annual Southwest Texas Junior College Invitational high school basketball tournament will begin.

Tipping off play in this year’s tournament will be a girls’ game between the the Brackett Tigerettes and the Leakey Eagles at 8:30 a.m.

At 10 a.m., the Brackett Tigers will play the Knippa Rockcrushers junior varsity in the first boys’ game of the tournament.

Under the original tournament schedule, Brackett was to play Utopia today, while Leakey was to play La Pryor tomorrow.

“Because Leakey High School’s football team has advanced to the Class 1A Division I Region IV playoff game, the Leakey boys withdrew from participation in this year’s SWTJC basketball tournament,” said tournament director Landra Fowler.

Tomorrow night at Brady, the Leakey Eagles will battle the Gorman Panthers in the regional football championship game.
