Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District is hosting another Stuff the Bus campaign this year. The donation drive will run July 1-31.
The district is looking for all types of school supplies – from pencils and pens to pencil boxes, colored folders, and composition books.
“Anything helps,” said Niki Henderson, UCISD family and student specialist. Henderson stressed the need for composition books for the district.
Other supplies sought include backpacks, tissue boxes, binders, scissors, glue, crayons, markers, dividers, rulers colored pencils and loose-leaf paper.
Donation locations are as follows: UCISD Central Office, located at 1000 N. Getty St.; Medina Electric Cooperative, 2604 E. Main St.; Uvalde Chamber of Commerce, 340 N. Getty St.; El Progreso Memorial Library, 301 W. Main St.; Uvalde Memorial Hospital, 1025 Garner Field Road; Uvalde Emergency Medical Services Inc., 219 S. Getty St.; Uvalde Police Department, 964 W. Main St.; Uvalde Sheriff’s Office, 339 King Fisher Lane behind the Uvalde County Fairplex; Uvalde County Courthouse, 100 N. Getty St.; Texas Home Furnishings, 2300 E. Main St.; First State Bank, at 200 E. Nopal St.; and Our Health Nuestro Salud at 200 Evans St.
The Uvalde Leader-News, located at 110 N. East St., is also a drop-off location for donations. Anyone who brings a donation to the newspaper office may have their picture taken for our Facebook page and enter to win a free one-year newspaper subscription.
Other locations may be added in the future.
Items donated will go to benefit UCISD students in need. The new school year is set to begin for the district Aug. 20.
“We know that there are so many families out there who struggle just to provide basic living expenses,” Henderson said. “School supplies become an extra expense that many families just do not have.”
Students and parents who are in need of supplies for the coming school year may contact Henderson, or her family specialist colleagues Nikki Rodriguez or Barbara Chase, at 830-591-4954, extension 5510.
Those interested in giving monetary donations to the campaign may drop off cash or check to Central Office. Checks may be written out to Uvalde CISD, with the tagline “Stuff the Bus” in the memo section.
Those who are interested in donating to the campaign after July 31 may contact Henderson directly.
