Softball, track camps set this week

Softball and track will be the two featured sports for youth camps offered by the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District for Uvalde youngsters this week.

The softball camp will be conducted from Monday through Wednesday at the Uvalde High School softball field.

The softball camp is for incoming fourth-graders up to ninth-graders.

Camp will be staged from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

The fee for camp is $30 per camper.

UHS head softball coach Kristina Finger will be the main instructor for the softball camp.

Assisting Coach Finger with the camp will be new assistant coach Sabrina Santellanes and some junior assistant coaches.

Track-and-field camp will be held from Tuesday through Thursday in the Honey Bowl.

Boys and girls who are incoming first-graders up to eighth-graders may participate in the camp.

Camp will run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. each day.

The cost for camp is $25.

UHS girls’ head track-and-field coach Libby Guzman will be the main instructor for the track-and-field camp.

Other coaches who will work the camp are UHS boys’ head track-and-field coach C.J. Rivera, Frank Gonzales, Nick Hernandez, and George Menchaca.

On June 24-26, the girls’ basketball camp will be conducted in UHS’s Harvey Kinchlow Gym.

Incoming fourth-graders up to ninth-graders are eligible to take part in the camp.

The daily camp sessions will run from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

Cost for the camp is $35 per camper.

The boys’ basketball camp will be held from July 8-11 in Kinchlow Gym.

Daily sessions are scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon.

The camp is for incoming fourth-graders up to ninth-graders.

Fee for the camp is $45 per camper.

UHS head basketball coach Alex Oyola will direct both girls’ and boys’ basketball camps.

Golf camp is scheduled for July 9-11 at Uvalde Memorial Golf Course.

Camp will run from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. each day.

The camp is for 9-year-olds up to incoming ninth-graders.

Cost for the golf camp is $36 per camper.

UHS head golf coach Roy P. Torres will conduct the golf camp.

On July 15-18, the football camp will be held at the UHS practice complex.

The camp, for incoming fourth-graders up to ninth-graders, will be staged from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily.

Fee for the camp is $30 per camper.

UHS head football coach R.T. Gonzales and members of his staff will direct the youth football camp.

A tennis camp is scheduled for July 1-3 and 5 at the Terri Rambie Tennis Complex.

The camp will run from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. daily.

Cost for the tennis camp is $60.

On July 1-2 at UHS, a wrestling camp is scheduled.

The camp is open to five-year-olds up to incoming freshmen.

Camp will run daily from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Cost for the wrestling camp is $10 per camper.

UHS head wrestling coach Nicholas Hernandez will be the main instructor for the camp.

This past week, volleyball and tennis camps were sponsored by UCISD.

Prior to that a camp was staged for baseball and for soccer.
