Jimmy Gouard has taken the position of interim principal of Sabinal Elementary School. That demanding job is one he tackles with over 16 years of administrative experience, one of which was as the first elementary principal for D’Hanis Independent School District.

Referring to the Texas Education Agency ratings, Gouard said that his first years in D’Hanis were most exciting due to “having my own team to work with. We earned Recognized and then Exemplary those two years I was there.”

Academia is not his only interest though. Gourd remodeled his house the first year he was fully retired, started and ran his own educational consulting business, is a certified spin instructor and TRIBE Fitness instructor, and is the current shot clock operator for the San Antonio Spurs, a National Basketball Association team.

“It gets very exciting, especially during the playoffs,” he said.
