With two in every five women and one in every five men in Texas having been sexually assaulted, Texas Association Against Sexual Assault representative Amanda Lewis asked Uvalde officials why they think so few cases are reported in Uvalde County.

The question came after Uvalde Memorial Hospital reported generating 14 rape kits so far this year.

The Uvalde County Sheriff’s Office investigated 21 sexual assaults last year and five so far this year. The Uvalde Police Department investigated 14 sexual assault cases in 2017 and 18 so far this year.

Throughout Uvalde County, 28 people have been arrested on sexual assault charges over 2017-2018, with 14 arrests occurring in 2017 and another 14 in 2018.
