Sabinal Independent School District hopes to build a new gymnasium and all-weather track with strong community support by way of a bond election, said Richard Grill, Sabinal ISD superintendent.
A petition supporting a bond election for the facility upgrades has been started by the community, and the administration presented this information to the district’s board of trustees during the December meeting. So far, there is no proposed dollar amount for the improvements.
“A renewed interest in the gym and track has emerged in the community, and Coach [Robert] Goebel and I have discussed with the board of this interest as we are aware of the community petition,” Grill said.
This is the second time this issue has come before the board.
“In 2010, the board supported the administration’s recommendation to call a bond election to build a new gym as well as renovations to science classrooms and the cafeteria,” Grill said. “The vote cast by the community showed a lack of support for the gym, with many citing that the district should focus on the instructional facilities.”
