Lobos run over their competition


The Uvalde Lobos literally ran away from their competition last Saturday as they claimed top team honors in the 55th-annual Uvalde Relays.

Coach Libby Guzman’s Lobos piled up 181 points to finish far ahead of the runner-up Laredo LBJ Wolves in the team-points standings. LBJ totaled 134 points.

Uvalde’s girls captured first-place honors in nine of the 17 events, including all three relays.

Kasidy Hernandez won two first-place medals. She took top honors in the 200-meter dash and the 300-meter hurdles.

Hernandez’s winning times were 28.47 seconds and 51.17 seconds.

Alexa Luna finished first in the 100-meter dash with her time of 12.79 seconds.

Kayden Carrasco led a one-two-three sweep for the Lobos in the 800-meter dash.

Carrasco’s first-place time was 2:35.13.

Michelle Hernandez took second place. She was .08 behind Carrasco. Her time was 2:35.21.

Ariana Reyes placed third with a time of 2:40.43.

Reyes won top honors in the pole vault. She cleared 7 feet and 6 inches to place first in the event.

Shelby Colvin cleared 4 feet and 4 inches to win top honors in the high jump.

UHS’s relay teams claimed first place in the four-by-100-meter relay, the four-by-200-meter relay, and the four-by-400-meter relay.

Briana Crow, Alexa Luna, Abby Kone, and Esmy Garcia posted a time of 50.11 seconds in the four-by-100 relay.

Kone, Garcia, Crow, and Luna won the four-by-200 relay in a time of 1:51.33.

Kayden Carrasco, Michelle Hernandez, Delilah Da La Garza, and Esmy Garcia won the four-by-400 relay with their time of 4:23.

Others placing in sprint events included Briana Crow, third place, 100 meters, 13.37 seconds; Deliliah De La Garza, third place, 200-meters, 29.17 seconds; and Michelle Hernandez, second place, 400 meters, 1:06.86

A’Taisha Carroll won second place in the 100-meter hurdles. Her time was 17.46 seconds.

Abby Kone placed sixth in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 51.03 seconds.

In distance events, Ariana Reyes placed sixth in the 1,600 meters with her time of 6:31, while Alexandria Nolasco finished sixth in the 3,200 meters with a time of 13:44.

Alexis Silva and Shyann Dockal won fifth place and sixth place, respectively, in the long jump with jumps of 13-11 and 13-8.5.

Makayla Barboza put the shot 31 feet and 2.75 inches for third place, while Andrea Valdez placed sixth with a put of 27-8.5.

Barboza won third in the discus with a throw of 85 feet and 5 inches.
