The Uvalde Lobos will play their biggest soccer match of the 2019 season tomorrow afternoon when they face the Floresville Jaguars in a District 28-5A rematch.
Kick-off time for the varsity match is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Uvalde High School soccer field.
At 11 a.m., the junior varsity match between Uvalde and Floresville will be played.
Last month at Floresville, Coach Keith Pendleton’s Lobos lost a narrow 2-1 decision to the Jaguars in a hotly-contested competitive soccer match.
The Lobos were forced to play much of the second half with one player less on the field after they had a player red-carded.
Late in the contest, the Lobos had a chance to knot the score at 2-2 with a penalty kick, but they were unable to score on the play.
Shelby Colvin recorded the lone goal for the Lobos in that match.
Ansley Vasquez and Mandi Jones each scored a goal for Floresville.
Friday night, the Lobos were scheduled to play at Somerset, while the Jaguars were set to host Southside at Floresville.
Results from those two matches were not available at presstime.
Going into action Friday, Floresville, 6-5-1 in district, held a one-and-one half match lead over the Lobos, 5-7-1 in district, in the battle for fourth place in the District 28-5A team standings.
For the Lobos, the match tomorrow is a must-win contest.
If they win, the Lobos stay in the hunt for post-season playoff honors.
The Floresville girls can clinch fourth place and the final post-season playoff spot in 28-5A standings with a win over the Lobos tomorrow.
Following action Monday, the Lobos wind up their District 28-5A sschedule with a road match against the Southside Cardinals on March 19.
Floresville has a home match against Medina Valley on March 19 and a road match against Southwest Legacy on March 22.
Harlan, Medina Valley, and Southwest already have locked up post-season playoff berths.
All that remains to be settled is the order of finish for those top three teams and which team claims the fourth and final playoff spot.
The Uvalde girls trounced the Eagle Pass Winn Lady Mavericks in a 6-0 rout last Tuesday night at the UHS soccer field.
Arissa Perez recorded the hat trick as she tallied three goals against Winn.
Pam Yanez made two assists and Esmy Garcia had one assist on the Perez goals.
Garcia racked up two goals. She received assists from Yanez and Maribel Solis.
Reina Vigil scored the other Uvalde goal off an assist by Solis.
Their victory over Winn last Tuesday night snapped a two-match losing streak for the Lobos and kept them in post-season playoff contention.
Prior to that, the Lobos lost back-to-back matches against Southwest, 5-1, and Harlan, 7-0.
For the Lobos, the Floresville match tomorrow will be their final home action of the season.
