Lobos make home debut Tuesday


UHS girls play Legacy in softball

The Uvalde Lobos will make their season home debut Tuesday whey they host the Southwest Legacy Lady Titans at the Uvalde High School softball field.

Action in the varsity game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start and will be preceded by a 5 p.m. junior varsity contest.

Coach Kristina Finger’s Lobos will coming into their home opener following weekend tournament competition.

They were scheduled to participate Thursday through yesterday in the Navarro Tournament at Huber Ranch near Seguin.

Because of inclement weather, the tourney schedule was revised.

Under the revised slate, the Lobos were scheduled to play Hays Lehmann at noon Friday, El Paso Ysleta at 6 p.m. Friday, and El Paso Riverside at 8 p.m. Friday.

Yesterday, they were to wrap up tourney play with a noon game against Luling.

Tourney results will be reported in Thursday’s Uvalde Leader-News.

The Lobos began their season with a 9-1 district road loss against the Medina Valley Lady Panthers last Tuesday night.

In that contest, Medina Valley scored one run in each of their first four innings.

They added two runs in the fifth inning and three runs in the sixth inning.

Uvalde’s lone run came in the fourth inning.

The Lobos  and the Lady Panthers each totaled six hits in the game, but the Medina Valley girls capitalized on six Uvalde errors.

Briana Mata and Bethany Gonzales each collected two hits for the Lobos.

Mata hit a solo homer and singles, while Gonzales singled twice.

Jocelyn Bustamante doubled, while Alexis Quintero singled.

Emily Friesenhahn homered and singled to lead MV’s hitting.

Megan Flores, the pitcher of record for the Lobos, struck out eight batters.

Only three of MV’s runs were earned because of the six Uvalde errors.

Following softball action against Legacy Tuesday night, the Lobos will be in the San Antonio area to take part in the East Central-Judson softball tournament set for next weekend.
