Lobos down Highlands in game one

Uvaldeans win a 10-9 thriller

It was a wild one in game one of the Uvalde-Highlands softball playoff series Thursday night.

The Uvalde Lobos held off a seventh-inning comeback bid by the Highlands Owls to record a 10-9 win.

With one out in the seventh inning, Kenya Coleman dropped a single into shallow right center field to begin a Highlands rally.

Relief pitcher Anahi Ramirez struck out the next batter, before Kristyn Canales reached base on a walk.

With two outs and the potential game tying run at second base, Highlands’ best hitter Alyssa Flores was the next batter.

At that point, Uvalde High School head softball coach Kristina Finger made a calculated strategical as she issued an intentional walk to Flores to load the bases.
