Lobos break district losing streak

UHS girls win 57-56 hoops thriller

Lenisa Tomasini scored the game-winning shot for the Uvalde Lobos who won a 57-56 basketball road thriller against the Eagle Pass Winn Lady Mavericks Tuesday night.

Tomasini, a 5-foot-3 senior guard, grabbed an offensive rebound and quickly put up a short-range shot.

Her shot hit off the top of the backboard and went into the basket to give the Lobos a one-point lead in the closing seconds.

With the win, the Lobos snapped a 25-game district losing streak that dates back to January of 2018.

“I am super proud of all of our young ladies, especially Lenisa and the rest of the seniors on the team,” said Uvalde High School head basketball coach Fortino Patiño. “It was a total team effort and an awesome win for us. This is big victory for our program.”

The UHS girls played the Eagle Passans a tough ball game right from the get-go.

They led by a score of 10-6 at the end of the first period and were up by four points, 23-19, at the end of the first half.
