Lobos begin district play Tuesday

UHS girls face defending champs

District 28-5A basketball will begin Tuesday night when the Uvalde Lobos journey to southern Bexar County to play the Southside Lady Cardinals.

Tip-off time for the varsity game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., while the sub-varsity games will get underway at 5 p.m.

Southside won the District 29-5A basketball title last season.

The Lady Cards rolled up a 28-4 season record.

They lost a narrow 40-35 decision to Corpus Christi Tuloso-Midway in bi-district competition.

Five lettermen return from last season’s team, including point guard Ashley Cantu, a 5-foot-1 sophomore; forwards April Herrera, a 5-foot-7 junior, and Madalyn Soto, a 5-foot-10 sophomore; and guards Alyssa Herrera, a 5-foot-4 junior, and Makayla Jones, a 5-foot-5 junior.

Coach Jessica Guzman’s Lady Cards are off to a 6-4 start this season.
