Library celebrates end of summer reading program

Ninety-three children plus 56 more parents, siblings and extended family members were in attendance at El Progreso Memorial Library’s celebration of the end of the 2018 summer reading program, held July 11 at 11:30 a.m. Light refreshments were served, including nachos and cupcakes.

Grason Hanemann, the 7-year-old guest reader for that morning’s preschool story hour, and his family helped to hand out the prizes for the greatest number of books read. A total of twenty prize packages were given out.

Recipients of the prizes were as follows: Troy Elizondo received a blue noodle, water balloons, bubbles and a water sprinkler; Raquel Guedea received a blue noodle, bubbles and a double slide; Isabel Valentin, a backyard game combo and goofy foot designs; Andrea Garcia, a backpack with blue bubbles, a frisbee and beach ball.

Other prize winners included Sebasitan Quintanilla, who won a backpack with green bubbles, a spinner and a football; Carson Spies Ehresman, who won a water gun, a pink noodle, a jewelry workstation and water balloons; Janelle Aguilar, who won a jump rope, sidewalk chalk, bubbles, and a washable-paint studio.
