Sue Klebold is the mother of a killer – Columbine High School shooter Dylan Klebold. As such, she recognizes she is a source of curiosity and uses her platform to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention.

Klebold is scheduled to speak at Uvalde Memorial Hospital’s Healthy Minds Matter event, slated May 9, from 5-7 p.m. at the Willie De Leon Civic Center.

She is the author of “A Mother’s Reckoning: Living in the Aftermath of Tragedy,” a book about the 1999 Columbine High School massacre. Carried out by seniors Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, the school shooting resulted in the deaths of 12 students and one teacher. Twenty-one others were injured. Harris and Klebold committed suicide in the campus library, where they had killed 10 of their victims.

But the perpetrator who shares responsibility for those deaths and injuries is not the child Klebold raised and loves.
