UCISD trustees tap chief deputy for role as Ball prepares to leave district

On Monday night at a special board meeting, John “Hal” Harrell was named interim superintendent for Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District by the board of trustees. Harrell will replace outgoing Superintendent Jeanette Ball while the district seeks someone permanent to fill the role.

Just prior to this appointment, Harrell worked for the district as deputy superintendent in charge of maintenance and operations, the transportation department and child nutrition.

Though not surprised at the turn of events, Harrell was “ecstatic” to receive the honor. It has been a personal goal, he said, to one day become superintendent – something he has spent much of his education toward.
