For May, the artist of the month spotlight shines on eight founding women of Uvalde’s Encina Art Center.

The installation at El Progreso Memorial library allows visitors to explore the works of Sharron Carnes, Laura Dabney, Sandra Hopper, Carol Kothmann, Dorothy Redland, Jenny Sutherland, Debbie Trees and Bea Ybarra.

Sharron Carnes

Uvalde native Sharron Carnes began oil painting in 2012 as a student of Dorothy Redland. She continued with Redland, learning watercolor techniques.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Sam Houston State University, and has taken art classes at the Southwest School of Art in San Antonio, and the Coppini Academy of Fine Arts also in San Antonio.
