Dorris is library’s artist of month

Throughout the month of January at El Progreso Memorial Library, the gallery walls have been shining with the artwork of 16-year-old Uvalde High School junior Ella Dorris.

This artist of the month installation is Dorris’ first art showing. It encompasses a broad spectrum of her works, including watercolor and photography.

Dorris has been making art as long as she can remember, and says she gets her artistic leanings from her family, whom she described as artistic on both sides.

She is the daughter of Blair and Todd Dorris.

“I get inspiration from my family and friends, they are very encouraging and supportive,” said Dorris, who sat down for a quick interview on Tuesday afternoon, in between getting out of high school classes and just before her University Interscholastic League practice started.

“Right now my artwork is a hobby. I’m mainly focusing on theatre arts,” Dorris said.
