District competition ends today

Running finals top off track meet

Today at Southwest High School, the running-event finals of the District 28-5A track-and-field meet will be conducted.

Action will begin with the four-by-100-meter relay at 5 p.m.

Other events today will include the 800-meter run, 100-meter hurdles, 110-meter hurdles, 100-meter dash, four-by-200-meter relay, 400-meter dash, 300-meter hurdles, 200-meter dash, 1,600-meter run, and four-by-400-meter relay.

Competition in the two-day event began yesterday as district field events were scheduled to be held, along with the running-event preliminary races.

The top eight finishers from the running-event prelims advanced to today’s finals.

Uvalde shot put athlete Eric De La Rosa placed first in the district event with his put of 51 feet.
