December of 2019 generates $8K for El Progreso library

Upcoming events include magic show, Valentine’s concert

El Progreso Memorial Library wrapped up 2019 on a high note, with December’s Music on Main concert and other events bringing the fundraising tally for the final month of the year to over $8,000.

“We felt like it was a very successful December,” said library director Mendell Morgan.

He said that the annual home tour raised about $7,000; the Christmas Spectacular, approximately $1,000; and the giving tree, $600; and memorials $710.

El Progreso Memorial Library is a 501c3 organization, whose funding relies heavily on community support. The library hosts numerous fundraisers throughout the year, which helps fund programs.

Upcoming fundraisers include a magic performance, “It’s Magic, 2” with Trixie Bond at the Uvalde Grand Opera House on Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Other participants include Curt Parsons, Don Moravits and ventriloquist  David Pitts with his “wonder dog” Frankie.

Tickets are $7 per person, with all proceeds benefitting the library.

Prior to the magic show performance, Trixie Bond is offering an introductory magic class for 5-12-year-old children on Saturday from 9 a.m to noon at the library. There is no charge for the class, which includes supplies and is open to the first 35 children.

In February, the library’s annual Valentine-themed fundraising concert is set for Feb. 8 at 7 p.m.

El Progreso Memorial Library is located at 310 W. Main St. For more information, call 830-278-2017.
