Crash landing

Pilot airlifted with burns, injuries after engine fire

Sandia-area pilot Carl Walker was airlifted to San Antonio Military Medical Center Thursday after he crash landed his Beechcraft Bonanza on the Annandale Ranch after  reporting an engine fire.

Annandale Ranch is located off Farm-to-Market Road 2690 near Highway 127, approximately 20 miles north of Uvalde. Walker was the only occupant of the single-engine aircraft.

Walker reported an engine fire to Houston air traffic control, which relayed information to the Uvalde Police Department dispatch center. Dispatchers then notified Uvalde County Sheriff’s Office deputies. Texas Department of Public Safety, Sabinal EMS, Uvalde EMS, Uvalde MedAir-1, and Uvalde and Concan volunteer fire departments also responded. The incident is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Uvalde County Sheriff’s Office investigator Gilbert Valdez was the first to arrive at the scene.
