Tomorrow afternoon at Eagle Pass, the Uvalde Coyotes will resume their District 28-5A basketball schedule.
They will take on the Winn Mavericks in a tripleheader in the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center Gym.
Varsity tip-off time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Preceding the varsity game will be a freshman game at 11:30 a.m. and a junior varsity game at 12:45 p.m.
Coach Paulo Valero’s Mavericks, 0-2 in district and 8-13 for the season, will enter play tomorrow coming off Monday night road action against the Southside Cardinals.
Results from that contest were not available at presstime.
Winn went into the Southside game trying to snap a six-game losing streak.
The last victory for the Mavs came in a 75-70 win over the Crystal City Javelinas on Dec. 9 at Crystal City.
Down 45-34 at the end of the first half, the Eagle Passans outscored the Javelinas, 41-25, in the second half to win the basketball game.
Other victories for Winn this season have come over Del Rio, 69-61; Carrizo Springs, 66-29; Weslaco East, 74-47; Poteet, 83-56; Bishop, 82-54; and San Antonio Lutheran, 68-65.
In tournament action at Hondo, the Mavericks lost a 65-62 over-time decision against the Hondo Owls.
Last month at the Poteet tourney, Winn lost a 69-46 verdict against the Fredericksburg Battlin’ Billies.
Some of the top players for the Mavericks this season include forwards Moe Gaytan, a 5-foot-11 senior, and Diego Rodriguez, a 5-foot-11 senior, guard Jairo Maldonado, a 5-foot-10 senior, and post Edward Fragoso, a 6-foot-5 senior.
Coach Alex Oyola’s Coyotes, 0-4 in district play and 6-15 for the season overall, will come into the game tomorrow following an 85-38 loss to the district-leading San Antonio Harlan Hawks Monday afternoon in Uvalde High School’s Harvey Kinchlow Gym.
Up by a halftime score of 46-23, the Hawks outscored the Coyotes, 25-6, in the third period to extend their lead to 71-29.
They then outpointed the Uvaldeans, 14-9, in the fourth period on the way to their 47-point victory.
Christian Rivera topped the scoring for the Coyotes. He netted 13 points.
Others scoring were Eric Flores and Peyton Carnes each with six points; Christian Treviño with four points; D’Andre Carroll with three points; and Donovan Davila, Angel Flores and Estevan Ortiz each with two points.
Chris Hernandez and Majik De La Garza played but did not score.
Elijah Lomas scored 28 points, including five points in fourth period, to lead Harlan’s scoring.
Following action tomorrow, the Coyotes will make their 2020 home debut next Tuesday in Uvalde High School’s Harvey Kinchlow Gym.
