Coyotes win, 11-10, in nine innings

Chris Hernandez ripped a single to left field to drive in the game-winning run as the Uvalde Coyotes beat the Alamo Heights Mules, 11-10, in an extra-inning playoff baseball thriller Thursday.

Hernandez’s hit came in the bottom half of the ninth inning.

It topped off a wild scoring festival in game one of the Class 5A bi-district series.

Diego Rodriguez led things off for the Coyotes in the ninth inning.

He hit a slow-rolling grounder along the first base foul line.

Relief pitcher Jackson Veale slipped on the turf as he fielded the ball and quickly flipped it to first baseman Angel Tijerina.

Rodriguez narrowly beat Veale’s throw to first.

The ball got away from Tijerina on the play and on the error, Rodriguez advanced to second base.
