Coyotes, Southwest vie in rematch

Three of the final six District 28-5A basketball games for the Uvalde Coyotes will be played at home, beginning with action here Tuesday.

The Coyotes will host the Southwest Dragons.

Tip-off time for the varsity action in Uvalde High School’s Harvey Kinchlow Gym is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

The junior varsity teams will vie at 5 p.m. in Kinchlow Gym, while the freshman teams will face off at 5 p.m. in UHS’s Oscar Cruz Gym.

Last month at Southwest High School the Dragons recorded a 73-62 victory over the Coyotes in the first district meeting between the two teams.

Coach Danny Stewart’s Dragons, 5-4 in district and 7-21 for the season, were to host the Southside Cardinals in a key district matchup Friday night.

Southside entered against Southwest locked in a two-way tie with Floresville for second place in the district standings.

Both Southside and Floresville, 6-3 in district play, held a one-game lead over Southwest, while the Dragons were tied with Somerset for fourth place.
