Coyotes seek more success in 2018

The Uvalde Coyotes enjoyed a successful football season last year.

Uvalde High School head football coach R.T. Gonzales hopes to build upon the success of the 2017 season as his program faces new challenges ahead next season.

“I was extremely pleased with the way our team performed last season,” said Gonzales. “In pre-season polls, we were picked to finish fourth, but we ended up finishing third. Had we played a little better, we might have finished in second place.

“As I look back at last season, I see how fast our kids transitioned to a new philosophy, coaching staff, expectations, rules, and still managed to be successful. Those were the positive things from last season.

“I wish we had had more time going into last season,” said Gonzales, who was hired as the new UHS head football coach in early July. “If we had had an off-season with these kids or even a summer, it would have helped.”
