UHS hosts scrimmage tonight
Tonight in the Honey Bowl, the Uvalde Coyotes will host the Hondo Owls in a football scrimmage.
The varsity teams will scrimmage at 6:30 p.m., while the sub-varsity teams will meet at 5 p.m.
“The junior varsity and the freshmen will go for the full hour, 10 plays back and forth until time expires,” said Uvalde High School head football coach R.T. Gonzales.
“In the varsity scrimmage, we will go 15 plays on offense and 15 plays on defense, and then 10 plays on offense and 10 plays on defense,” said Gonzales. “Following the controlled portion of the scrimmage, we will go one half of live football with a running clock.
“During the live portion of the scrimmage, we will mark off penalties and play turnovers,” said Gonzales. “During the controlled part of the scrimmage, we will not mark off penalties and the whistle will blow the play dead on turnovers.”
For the varsity Coyotes and the junior varsity Coyotes, tonight’s scrimmage will be their only pre-season action prior to the start of the regular season next week.
The Coyotes participated in spring football back in May and under University Interscholastic League rules, they are eligible to play only one scrimmage.
