Coyotes prep for season opener

The Uvalde Coyotes will top off the final week of pre-season football workouts this week with a scrimmage against the Honda Owls Thursday.

Varsity action at Hondo’s Barry Field will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Beginning at 5 p.m., the freshman team and the junior varsity team will scrimmage.

For Coach R.T. Gonzales’ Coyotes, the scrimmage will be a dress rehearsal for the start of football season.

With the start of school tomorrow, the Coyotes will go into their regular-season practice schedule as the varsity and junior varsity will practice from 7 a.m. to 9:15 a.m., while the freshmen will practice from 3:45 p.m. to 5 p.m.

“Things have been going great in practice. We’ve definitely improved each day,” said Gonzales. “We’re working towards being in the best shape that we have ever been in. The kids have been fighting hard and sticking with it in practice.
