Coyotes play first road game

Uvaldeans face Winn at Eagle Pass tomorrow

The Uvalde Coyotes will face their first football road challenge of the season tomorrow when they travel to Eagle Pass to take on the Winn Mavericks.

Kick-off time for the contest is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Cozel Foster Veterans Memorial Stadium located within the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center complex.

Coach Eric Villaseñor’s Mavericks began their football season with an impressive 21-0 shut-out victory over the Crystal City Javelinas last Friday night at Crystal City.

“We faced a good Eagle Pass High team in our season opener last Friday. This week, we face another good Eagle Pass team in CC Winn,” said Uvalde High School head football coach R.T. Gonzales. “It’s going to be another challenge for us as we go up against a solid ball club.”

Offensively, the Mavericks are led by quarterback Ethan Johnston, a 6-foot, 175-pound junior.

Johnston carried the ball 20 times for 150 yards and scored all three touchdowns for Winn in their victory over Crystal City.
